Royal Arthur: In amongst my late father's photos I found this one, attached. I understand from a Naval friend it is a class from the Royal Arthur training establishment, almost certainly WW2 era. I don't recognise anyone in the photo so can't understand why my Dad would have it but there must be a connection. I can account for other relatives and their military service. Can anyone help me please - maybe there is a list of names for Class 282. The only other possibility I can come up with is that his Uncle, Thomas Patrick Moore was in the Navy but too old to be in that photo, so could he have been an instructor or in some way connected to Royal Arthur. I appreciate that records of names may be closed for a period of time but would appreciate any help at all that you can give me. Thomas Moore and my Dad lived in Brighton/Hove Sussex, though Dad was away for the whole of WW2 in the Army. If you would like to publish the photo in the Navy News please feel free to do so.

Strudwick, Ray: Looking for Ray Strudwick from HMS Fearless from 1968-70. Remember me mate? 31/8/2010
Hornbill, HMS - Cap Tally: Can anyone help me? Since my Dad passed away 12 years ago I have unearthed some great pictures and records of his time in the Fleet Air Arm. I am in the process of trying to obtain cap tallies for each of the ships or bases he was posted to. I currently am missing only one, that being HMS Hornbill at Culham. Dad was there during the decommissioning of the base circa 1958. If anyone has a cap tally for Hornbill that they would be prepared to pass on I would be extremely grateful. 31/8/2010
Research into Fathers ships: Looking at my fathers "S-459" it shows his various ships from joining at Royal Arthur & Glendower in 1944, he then goes to "Drake" and "Raleigh" for Basic training. As is Home division is Devonport. I've assumed that "DRAKE" is the HMS Drake in Devonport. BUT there was an HMS Drake in to 1934 to 1947 which was renamed HMS Alaunia in 1947. Am i correct in my assumption that the "DRAKE" is Devonport HQ? Also could someone tell my where & what St. Angelo (Lookout) was? I know Lookout was HMS Lookout involved in the Med from Malta Times, April 1945. 27/8/2010
Forester, HMS - (H74): HMS Forester a WW11 Fearless class destroyer was adopted by the town of Morley in Yorkshire during warship week 21st to 28th March 1942. The towns people having raised just under half a million pounds in a national savings drive. Population of the borough of Morley was at this time under 10,000 people. I was the first child born during this week, on March 23rd, and was adopted by the ship as battle ship baby. On retiring from a life long career in the Merchant Navy in 2007 I have started to research the career of HMS Forester and would through your pages request any help or information that any of your readers can give. 23/8/2010

Global 86 Update: Global 86 'Lost' Footage Update. As mentioned in the last post, the footage that was filmed throughout the above deployment has been located in the archives of the Imperial War Museum. I have spoken with them and it is available for viewing upon written request for an appointment. The rather large fly in the ointment is that it is a 26 hour long set of initial rushes without any editing! I am planning to get down there soon and check whether any indexing is in place (I feel sure there must be)as that would at least allow me to pick out some personally relevant cans of film (it is all on 16mm film). If all those who are interested contact the Imperial War Museum through Matthew (Lee MLee@IWM.ORG.UK), we might collectively be able to exert some pressure on them to digitise the film! Good luck and perhaps you might let me know how you get on! 17/8/2010
Jones, Peter: I am looking for any pictures/anything on the above person who was my Fiancé. I sadly lost Pete in 1990 aged just 37, but he has a daughter now 22 who would love any information on her Dad. He served on the Ark Royal when he was 16-18. 17/8/2010
