Two World War II ships which
are remembered at an annual event organised by Navy veterans
in the Channel Islands now feature on a new stamp from the
Guernsey Post Office.
The first block of a massive
new ship being built for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary has been
moved into position in her berth by BAE at the company’s
Govan shipyard in Scotland.
The Royal Naval Division monument
has been moved from the grounds of the old Royal Naval College
Greenwich in readiness for its return to its original home
at the old Admiralty Building.
Type 23 frigate HMS St Albans,
damaged by a ferry in gales in the autumn, is back at sea
today, well on course to resume her programme of trials and
training.
An appraisal of initial training
in the Armed Forces has concluded that the Ministry of Defence
could have “considerable confidence” in the system
– although two areas were identified where improvements
could be made.
THE Navy’s latest patrol
vessel is due to make her public debut at this year’s
International Festival of the Sea (IFOS) in Edinburgh –
but the crisis in the Middle East will dictate the exact nature
of the Senior Service contribution to the event.
British film and television
companies are on the look-out for personnel with military
experience to act as extras – and up to 300 are needed
immediately for the filming of a new series of Ultimate Force.
A dozen members of the ship’s
company of HMS Ark Royal made the trip to Elland Road during
the aircraft carrier’s pre-deployment leave to pick
up a new set of football kit.
Global events over the past
18 months have meant that one small Naval unit based at the
edge of a foreign land has had to transform itself to meet
the fast-paced changes that followed from September 11, 2001.
