Leading artist displays work at Falmouth museum   25.04.03 09:37

One of Britain’s foremost artists is displaying a collection of his work at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth.

Sir Terry Frost’s exhibition, entitled Maritime Rhythms, is centred around marine images, and includes a painting which has been specifically painted for the Museum called Maritime Blue.

Sir Terry, who has been suffering from poor health, visited the Museum on a number of occasions during its development, and said he had been “affected by its growing strength”, as well as being “excited by the buffeting of shapes and forms within the building”.

The Museum is also displaying a large painting on its balcony looking into the Flotilla space – the large central hall of the museum, in which a fleet of small boats is suspended in mid air.

The painting is titled Spiral Assembley, and the Museum’s exhibition manager, Kath Lynch, had to negotiate with scaffolders to arrange the hanging of such a large canvas.

“We’ve never displayed any work of this scale; however, hanging one of Sir Terry’s large paintings will be easy compared to some of the work that went into suspending the boats we have displayed in our Flotilla gallery,” she said.

The exhibition runs until Sunday September 28 at the museum, which is on Discovery Quay in the heart of Falmouth.
