Cricket stars take on Navy team   30.07.03 09:09

The Royal Navy cricket team plays host to the star-studded Lashings ‘World XI’ at Burnaby Road in Portsmouth tomorrow – Thursday July 31.

The Lashings team – subject to confirmation – promises to brings current and former cricketing Test legends such as Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams and Mark Waugh to the South Coast for an exhibition of top-class sport.

Richie and Jimmy have accumulated more than 350 one-day international caps, and 140 Tests, between them, and both captained the West Indies during their careers.

Mark Waugh notched 128 Tests for Australia, making him the fifth most capped player of all time, and his aggregate score of 8,029 gives him a Test average of more than 41.

The Royal Navy cricket team, preparing for the Inter-Services Festival in Aldershot in a few days time, will be looking for revenge after losing last year’s match.

As well as cricket there will be a bar and food facilities and a Lashings merchandise stand.

The cost of the afternoon’s entertainment, which is open to all and begins at 1pm, will be £2 for adults and 50p for children under 16.
