| A television company is looking
for a Naval team to fight an historic battle – pitting
their wits against one of the greatest commanders in history.
Lion Television makes the Time Commanders programme, currently
being screened on Thursday evenings on BBC2, and would like
a team of four from the Royal Navy to take part.
The programme features “intelligent and interesting
teams of four – families, friends, work colleagues etc
aged 15-55”.
Time Commanders is described as “an historical interactive
show, a game of strategy where you can enter a computer-generated
virtual world and take on, in battle, the greatest generals
from the past in an attempt to overturn history.”
The teams operate from a “21st century battlefield
command centre”, although there is no need for computer
or gaming knowledge – only the ability to think strategically
or be a good problem solver under pressure. Lively personalities
are also a factor in a prospective team’s favour.
Faced with an aggressive enemy force to defeat, teams are
guided through the game by presenter Eddie Mair, and two history
experts are on hand to assist and to assess the team’s
performance when the battle is won – or lost. They will
also explain what happened in the original battle on which
the game was based.
Special information about weapons and forces is also supplied
at the beginning, but then the tam has to produce a battle
plan and deploy its forces. The battle itself will last around
an hour.
Filming is likely to be on September 25 and 26 at the BBC
Television Centre in London, and Lion Television will cover
travel expenses. Filming is likely to take half a day per
team, and the show will probably be broadcast during the current
run, which ends at Christmas.
