Easter programme at Fleet Air Arm Museum   25.03.04 11:38

The Fleet Air Arm Museum is staging a range of activities to keep the youngsters amused over the Easter holidays.

Every day between April 3 and 18 there will be something of interest for someone – events will vary, from Easter egg hunts to family activities and talks.

The family events and talks will happen on April 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, and the talks will take place between 2pm and 3pm, looking at the role of pilots’ clothing and equipment.

The events will take place between 3pm and 4pm and will challenge you test design and engineering skills by making a device capable of allowing an egg to land safely having been dropped from the nose of Concorde to the ground below – a height of more than six metres.

When not involved in the programme of activities, there will still be the opportunity to go on board Concorde, and be transported by a simulated helicopter flight to the replica flight deck of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal.

Two huge protection screens, coupled with a real Phantom aircraft put you in the heart of the action as powerful jet fighters take off and land around you.

All the sounds and excitement of the working flight deck help recreate a golden age of Naval aviation.

The museum, which is situated just off the A303 at RN air station Yeovilton, is the largest Naval aviation museum in Europe, and staff suggest allowing at least four hours for a visit.
