Donation helps keep historic RN planes flying   22.12.04 16:19

Veteran Navy aircraft have been given a helping hand by company which organises Yeovilton Air Days.

AHA Events Ltd has donated £4,000 to the Fly Navy Heritage Trust, based at the Somerset air station, which is tasked with ensuring the unique collection of aircraft which makes up the RN Historic Flight remains airborne.

“There is a huge expense as well as time and effort involved in restoring, maintaining and displaying these historic aircraft,” said Ralph Patel of AHA Events.

“Without financial aid these aircraft wouldn’t be flying.”

John Beattie of the RN Historic Flight said: “Seeing the Sea Fury and Sea Hawk displaying at this year’s Air Day was very special.

“Both these aircraft have undergone substantial restoration over the last few years and it was good to see them both making their comeback at Yeovilton.

“Hopefully, they’ll both be fit for a full season next year.”

The Historic Flight operates three Swordfish, a Sea Fury and a Sea Hawk, allowing the public to see and hear these iconic aircraft in their natural element at air displays and military tattoos.
