An in-depth look at the Falklands War

  25.04.07 14:57

THE personal side of conflict in the Falklands 25 years will be revealed by participants in a series of talks at the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth – and a top-level conference.

Senior officers, naval experts and the official historian of the campaign, Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman, will review the war.

Among the guests at the conference are former First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Alan West, CO of HMS Ardent which was sunk in ‘Bomb Alley’ in the 1982 war, and present First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, who was the Flag Lieutenant to C-in-C Fleet 25 years ago, the hugely popular Admiral Fieldhouse.

A panorama of naval and Royal Marine actions in the conflict will be covered during the Saturday May 19 conference, which will be preceded the night before by a commemorative dinner aboard HMS Victory.

Details are available from Melanie Simpson at the RN Museum on 023 9272 7584 or mailto:Melanie.simpson@royalnavalmuseum.org
