HMS Gordon: Donald Arthur Robins (born 1916) (d 2005) of Wyken, Coventry, Warwickshire was stationed at HMS Gordon, Gravesend on the 5th October 1943. His son has a photograph of the "ships company". He also has a letter from his mother whilst he was at HMS Pembroke RN Barracks Chatham 19th July 1944 CYSX 507316. He may have served on "oil transport from USA"? There is one story of repairing a radio mast while at sea? Can anyone esle provide any further information about the incidents or Donald himself. Contact his son Peter Robins

Global 86: Scott Hayward is still trying to find the ‘lost’ film of this 1986 deployment. The ships he remembers on the deployment were: HM Ships Amazon, Manchester, Beaver and Illustrious. Joined up with HMS York for a few weeks around Hong Kong also; and of course, there were several RFA ships involved. It is thought the working title was ‘Navy Blue(s)’. Can any readers and/or participants on Global 86 help to restart this initiative? Scott will be ably assisted in the pursuit of the information by a long standing friend and remarkably talented amateur historian – Ashley Browne HMS Amazon 1985-87 – although he doesn’t know it yet! HMS Ganges: Mr Jarvis has three books written by Sir Arthur Bryant awarded to 8125 Midson, John W. 132 class Benbow Division, HMS Ganges, 29th May 1950. If he or a member of his family would like to have them, Mr Jarvis will gladly send them on. They came into his possession prior to June 1954 in lieu of a debt repayment. Contact R W Jarvis

Gunnery: Trevor Morgan who is ex-navy writes poetry and narrative verse. Trevor was in radar and has little experience of gunnery and the parlance of Gunnery Instructors. He would like to meet ex-GIs from the second world war who can give him some insights into the work involved in operating and firing secondary armament on cruisers of their period and the language used in gunnery in that period. Temp. Lt Cdr George Herbert Goodman GC MBE RNVR, served at HMS Vernon,HMS Nile and HMS President. Was awarded the George Cross for a series of bomb and mine disposals in North Africa. Assisting the disposals were PO William B Filer RN and painter Archibald John Russell RN, both of whom received the George Medal. Mark Goodman (GeorgeÕs Cousin) would like to contact Filer and Russell or anyone who knows of them and also anyonewho knew his cousin who was killed in a booby trapped house in Holland in May 1945. HMS Ganges: Seeking information from former shipmates of Arnold William Mace who joined at Ganges in October 1937. He later served in Pembroke, Mashona, Ashanti adn then into numerous submarines (Taurus, Trenchant). He left the RN in 1947 as a PO(TY). He was born in Guildford in 1922. Captain RC Garwood DSO RN: A display case has been recovered by the Police containing medals of which some have the Captains details engraved on them. HMS Gorden: The National Sea Training School Gravesend Association is up and running. The school was known as HMS Gordon during the WWII. Former trainees are invited to join the Association. Contact JD Meadowcroft

Gibraltar Joint Services Diving Club are trying to identify a wreck outside the north end of Gibraltar's Detached Mole. The site is known locally as the 'Inner and Outer' and comprises the bow and stern of a steam powered metal vessel. Design shows it be possibly one of these three vessels - HMT Stella Sirius was an armed trawler sunk by Vichy French air-raid on 25/9/40 and HMSs Erin and Honjo, both trawlers sunk in the harbour, sabotaged by a Spaniard working in the dockyard on 18/1/42. If you can throw any light on these vessels please contact Phil Smith, Club Diving Officer.

Stoker Gill: Leeds City Art Gallery are trying to find living relatives of Stoker Gill, who was believed killed in action on 15 December 1941. The gallery own a pastel portrait of Stoker Gill on HMS Exeter by Eric Kennington and would like to learn more of the sitter. RFA Fort Grange: The boyfriend, who served on RFA Fort Grange, of Becky Thompson would like to get a copy of a book containing pictures taken by personnel during the Gulf War. Contact Becky

HMS Grove: Reginald Charles Baker, stewrad, was killed on HMS Grove, 12 June 1942. His neice would like to learn more about him. If you can help contact DW Charles

HMS Glory: Trying desperately to find a photograph of Albert (Bertie) Waters, either with the ships company or an individual one of him. He joined the Royal Navy in 1949. Albert was a leading cook serving on HMS Glory in 1953 in Malta. Albert drowned off St Pauls Bay in Malta on 17th November 1953. His family do not have one of him in his naval uniform. HMS Ganges:  Trying to trace the naval service of Walter Ridett. He was at HMS Ganges as a boy sailor some time in the 1930s, and later was at the 2nd Battle of Narvik and the Bismarck hunt (possibly in HMS Foxhound). Later in the war he served in one of the Steam Gun Boats in the Channel. Also seeking Arthur Wells of Guiseborough, Cleveland, as he may have been a shipmate of Walter in Foxhound. HMS Grove: Robert Palmers uncle, Douglas James Holdaway, was killed in action whilst serving on HMS Grove, sunk by a german U-Boat on June 12th 1942. Douglas’ brother David is still living and in his eighties and would dearly like to contact any living survivor of this tragic incident so as to understand what happened on that day in 1942. Douglas was an ordinary seaman aged 21 years and came from Norbury in Surrey. Contact Robert Palmer
