HMS Hogue: A couple of years ago Dave wrote into Navy News asking about the fate of HMS Hogue which was involved with a Pakistani cruiser during a 58/9 Jet Exercise in the Indian Ocean. Dave was serving aboard the cruiser HMS Ceylon which was in Trincomalee harbour at the time of this exercise. The Hogue returned to Trincomalee with her bows stoved in and he believes she had casualties aboard from the collision. He thinks that the ship was never repaired and was finally scrapped in Singapore. He has sent some photos of the ship returning off exercise coming into Trincomalee showing damage to the bow section. If any ex-Hogue crew members who were readers of your excellent paper wanted copies of their old ship just get in touch either by writing or through the web I would be more than happy to oblige them. HMS Havelock - Charlie has photos of HMS Havelock participating in the sinking of a U-Boat and the capture of its crew.  Would anyone be interested in seeing them and helping me identify the action, etc.? None of the photos are dated or identified. Havelock’s pennant number, H 88, is just discernable.  The action depicted is in broad daylight and on very calm seas.  The photos were taken from another vessel, possibly a corvette.  A captured U-Boat crewman - quite possibly the captain, as he is wearing the characteristic white commander’s cap - can be clearly seen being hoisted aboard the vessel from which the photos were taken.  The Havelock stands in the background.  A second photo shows Havelock with one of its boats alongside.  The same series of photos show icebergs, a PBY and either ship-to-ship side-by-side refueling or personnel transfer.  There are five other photo series, depicting the captured crew debarking (in Argentia?), convoy ships (including a twin-stack liner), depth charge action, heavy seas, a blimp, etc.  The only other vessel identified, so far, is K 207, HMS Monkshood. The photos were in the effects of his late uncle, a USN doctor aboard the AD-15 Prairie.  Prairie was stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland, until late 1943, which probably means the photos had to have taken prior to then. Contact Charlie Henry
