Lyrics:
Can anyone provide further verses to the Matelots Lament which
went:- I was
walking through the dockyard in a panic, when I met a matelot old
and grey, On his shoulders were his kitbag and his hammock, and
this is what he had to say - Oh I wonder, yes I wonder, if the
jossman made a blunder when he made this draft chit out for me,
Now I've lived in jago's mansions and I've been a barrack stanchion,
but I've always said good morning to the chief, Good morning chief
(drawn out). Are there any more verses? Have looked round the internet
and an ex navy folk singer Cyril Tawney recorded this song amongst
others but unfortunately is now diseased. It may be possible to
purchase a recording etc if anyone knows of a supplier. Contact
