Warships of the First Flotilla, under the command of Rear Admiral Woodward were in Gibraltar for Operation 'Springtrain'

HMS Rhyl, HMS Yarmouth, HMS Dido, HMS Plymouth, HMS Ariadne, HMS Euryalus, HMS Coventry, HMS Glasgow, HMS Antrim, HMS Brilliant, HMS Galatea, HMS Lowestoft, HMS Aurora, HMS Glamorgan, HMS Broadsword, HMS Battleaxe, HMS Arrow, HMS Active, RFA Tidespring, RFA Engadine, RFA Appleleaf.

On 2nd April an Advanced Group of ships headed for Ascension.
