LIEUTENANT COMMANDER ROB FULFORD IEng MIIE ROYAL NAVy - SENIOR NAVAL OFFICER HMS RICHMOND

Born in 1958, Rob Fulford entered the Royal Navy at HMS Ganges straight from school in July 1974. Promoted through the ranks whilst serving in HM Ships BLAKE, AMBUSCADE, ILLUSTRIOUS and ARK ROYAL he was commissioned Sub Lieutenant SD(E)(WE) in February 1994, at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

Joining HMS SOUTHAMPTON in 1995 as the Weapons System Officer subsequently moving up to Deputy Weapon Engineer Officer he completed Deployments to the Caribbean, the United States and the Gulf of Arabia. During his time in SOUTHAMPTON he was awarded the Commander-in-Chief’s Commendation for Disaster Relief work in Anguilla.

On completion of his tour as DWEO, he joined Pheonix NBCD School in 1997 at HMS EXCELLENT where he was Officer-in-Charge of the NBC Practical Training Unit, teaching NBC Defence. In January 2001 he was appointed to Flag Officer Sea Training as a WE Seariding Officer, where he was lead Searider in RFAs and a variety of platforms including Portuguese, Greek, German, French and Swedish ships.

Appointed to the First Mine Countermeasures Squadron as Squadron Engineer Officer (SEO) in 2002, he deployed to the Arabian Gulf embarked in RFA SIR BEDIVERE. As SEO and the Squadron Executive Officer he was head of the N1, N4 and N9 arms of the MCM Battlestaff, responsible for Executive, Personnel, Logistics and Engineering functions for 11 ships, including support for US forces, during the preparation and operational phases of Op TELIC.

During Op TELIC he was selected for promotion to Lieutenant Commander and was promoted in October 2003. In September 2004, Rob was appointed as HMS RICHMOND’s Weapon Engineer Officer, joining during APT(N) deployment to the West Indies, and assumed responsibility as Senior Naval Officer for HMS RICHMOND’s Upkeep on 7 April 2005.

Rob lives in Fareham with his wife and the eldest of three daughters, while the youngest two are both at University. Outside of the Royal Navy he is an enthusiastic sportsman and otherwise occupies his time dabbling with computers and completing domestic renovation projects.
