HMS Richmond visits Jamaica
03.08.04
HMS RICHMOND has completed a four-day visit to Kingston, Jamaica to take a short break from counter-drug operations and conduct training for members of the Jamaican Coast Guard.

Berthed in Kingston harbour, the ship hosted classes of Coast Guard Officers and Ratings who were given practical instruction in fire fighting, damage control, first aid and maintaining navigational charts.

Maintainers from the ship also visited the Coast Guard Headquarters to advise on small arms and communications equipment maintenance. On completion of the visit, six members of the Coast Guard spent two days working on board the ship before being returned to Jamaica via boat.

Training local defence force personnel, which is conducted in conjunction with the British Military Training and Advisory Team, based in Antigua, is designed to strengthen ties with the Royal Navy and improve local forces' ability to interoperate during counter-drug operations.
