HMS Richmond - Spring deployment 2002

HMS RICHMOND commenced her latest deployment on the 25 March 2002 and is due to return to her base port, at Portsmouth, in July. During her time away the ship will participate in joint exercises with American forces off the East Coast of the USA and then travel to the Leeward Islands.

Once their the ship will provide support for Counter Drug Operations and be on standby in the area to provide humanitarian aid in the event that a hurricane should sweep the region.

This multi-tasking of HMS RICHMOND clearly demonstrates the versatility and adaptability that is provided by today's Royal Naval Type 23 Frigates. The ability to operate around the globe is a key part of the UK's defence capability and contributes vitally to the world-wide 'Force for Good'.

The ship has a varied and exiting programme ahead of her. Over the coming weeks and months you will be able to monitor the progress of the Ship and her crew through the regular updates provided direct from the Ship.
