Operation Telic is the name given to the British contribution to the campaign in Iraq.

It involves the largest British armada since the Falklands fleet more than 20 years ago.

A Royal Marine has been killed in southern Iraq over the weekend.

Mne C.R. Maddison, of 40 Commando RM, based in Taunton, was killed in action during fighting near Basra yesterday. His next of kin have been informed.

Harassment of Naval families by journalists is entirely unacceptable, according to Portsmouth Naval Base Commander Commodore Amjad Hussain.

In a letter to editors of news media in the Hampshire area, Cdre Hussain said: "While acknowledging that media interest in the welfare and attitude of Service families is bound to be high at this time of conflict in Iraq, I have received complaints that misplaced and untoward media interest is impeding the work of the Naval Personal and Family Service (NPFS) staff.

Bodies of war victims flown home

The first ten British fatalities of the war in Iraq were flown back to the UK on Saturday.

A C-17 transport aircraft brought the ten bodies back to RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire, where families and friends of the victims attended a ceremony.
